Beta & Sensitivity Reader

– A beta reader can check a manuscript for structural, character and plot consistency/clarity before publication.

– A sensitivity reader assists in checking a manuscript for issues and/or internalised biases related to the representation of marginalised identities.

I’m happy to offer both beta and sensitivity reading services separately. Check out the details below.

Beta Reading Services

Fantasy, speculative/science fiction, magical realism or historical fiction.

Note: If your work is outside of these genres but you think it might appeal to me as a reader – especially if it has diverse representation – feel free to send a request.

– All audiences –

Sensitivity Reading Services

As a reader of diverse stories, I know from experience that respectful representation can give so much joy to readers, which is why sensitivity reading is so important to me.

As a sensitivity reader, I will read and check your manuscript for any issues related to the specific marginalised identities/areas of representation described below. I will submit a document of feedback with explanations and suggestions to address any issues found within. Issues can include un-examined bias, stereotypes, problematic lines, harmful tropes or associated story framing that is not challenged within the text.

See Writing in the Margins for more information on sensitivity reading.
